Barcelona is a cycling city but Madrid isn´t, that´s the complaint that all Madrileños have against the presidents of the Madrid community. The last couple of years there were built lots of new bicycle strokes in Madrid with as biggest one the “green cyclist circle”.

The actual president of Madrid (Alberto Ruiz Gallardón) builded this cycle path of 64,2 km all around the capital of Spain. The total cost of the circle were 33,4 millions of Euros Not only the  bicycle paths were builded, there were also put 15.800 trees and 550.000 bushes next to these tracks.

Some people say that Madrid will finally be a cycle city as well as Barcelona, others (more critical ones) say that it´s very nice to have a circle all around the city, but that it goes from no place to nowhere. There is no secure way to get to the centre of Madrid by bike from almost anywhere.

Bici Critica is one of those critical organizations, they organize a bike ride every last Thursday of the month, and to cross Madrid with hundreds of cyclists just to let know the people who are driving their cars that cyclist also need their place in the traffic.
This their way to let know that they want more special bicycle paths to be able to go from one place to another by bike in Madrid.
